V=0j0fwSAifso Originally a 1979 Club Car golf cart, this one is powered by a 90 shaft horsepower JFS-100-13A turbine engine driving the rear wheels via a pneumatically actuated clutch and a motorcycle chain drive. The cart is fully functional and can be driven.

It was designed to be able to attain a top speed of 80 mph with the power turbine at 100% rated speed, although I have personally never taken it above 75 mph and it handles best in the 40 to 62 mph range. The cart is styled with a rocket hood ornament, functional air intake scoops, 1959 Cadillac tail lights, 1968 Cadillac headlight assemblies, a neon tube third brake light and a roof mounted train horn, and a 5 inch baloney-cut exhaust pipe. The fuel tank holds 9.6 gallons of jet fuel, enough for up to one hour of run time. The custom rear axle with differential is equipped with Wilwood disc brakes and a 2:1 reduction via the chain drive from the engine's output shaft. The cart has oil coolers for both the gas generator section of the engine and the power turbine section, an electric air compressor to keep the air tank for the clutch and train horn at operating pressure, and a 12 volt on-board battery and alternator.

Instrumentation includes gauges for gas generator oil pressure, power turbine oil temperature, electrical system voltage, compressed air system pressure, N1 (gas generator percent RPM), N2 (power turbine percent RPM), exhaust gas temperature, vehicle speed, fuel burn rate in gallons per hour, and a compass from a military helicopter. Also there is an aircraft type intercom system for use with aviation headsets. The front suspension and steering system are stock from the original cart and there are no brakes on the front wheels. The bottom of the seat has steel armor plating to protect your behind in case of engine or drive-train failure. The windshield folds up or down and must be folded down for high speed runs as it transfers weight away from the front wheels and causes the cart to handle poorly if left up at speeds over 60 mph.

The engine has a 24 volt electric starting system which requires two external 12 volt car batteries. The two starting batteries are not included with the sale. These batteries are connected via a starting cable which is then disconnected from the cart after the engine has been started. The engine requires MIL-PRF-23699 jet engine oil. Three of the rims will probably need replacing because they are leaking air.

Also included with the sale are the starting cable, a squeeze bottle for filling the oil sumps, a 2" wrench for adjusting the drive chain tensioner, and two military helicopter helmets. Warning: This cart is probably not legal to operate on public roads anywhere. Turbine engines are inherently dangerous. Driving a golf cart at speeds higher than the 20 mph that they were originally designed for can be dangerous. Sitting on a seat inches above a running gas turbine engine can be dangerous.

You must be familiar with the operating principles of gas turbine engines to be able to start and run the engine, and must have the mechanical skills to be able to work on this experimental machine to keep it in operational condition.
