Planet Electric G4 Street Legal 45mph Golf Car Cart Owned By Robert E. Petersen

This auction is for a 2004 Planet Electric G4 electric golf car which was previously owned by the famed Robert E. Petersen the creator of Hot Rod magazine. It was custom designed to match the decor of Mr. Petersen’s private fleet of Gulfstream jets at the Petersen Aviation Airport located in Van Nuys, CA. I was fortunate to have been offered a super rare opportunity to purchase this electric vehicle directly from the private underground vault at the iconic Petersen Automotive Museum located in Los Angeles, CA.

The retail price was approx $20K+ in 2004. This is a street legal vehicle and has a 120v battery power system which is capable of traveling at a 45mph top speed once you click the seatbelt in. A few key features are that it has 4-wheel disc brakes, independent suspension, rack and pinion steering, tilt wheel, custom leather seats, hidden storage under rear seat, stereo, speakers, headlights, blinkers, & removable hard top. Needs batteries, speed controller and has scratches on the front and rear bumpers which can easily be repaired. According to my friend who was the Director of Operations for the Petersen Aviation Airport, this Planet golf car worked flawlessly while it was in use at the airport.

It was taken out of commission after Robert Petersen’s passing and then transported and housed at the Los Angeles Petersen Automotive Museums underground vault. It remains a mystery why the speed control parts were removed at the Petersen Automotive Museum while it was being stored. I also read online the owner of Planet Electric also produced the first E-Indycar but I haven’t verified this claim. Supposedly there were approximately 100 of these vehicles produced so this is a very rare find and clearly well kept. My plan was to pay homage to Robert Petersen by upgrading this Planet Electric golf car/cart to reach speeds of 100mph+.

I’m selling this G4 not because I want to but I’m overwhelmed on other projects which take priority.
