Or in another word, except Philips and Panasonic projectors, all other projector brands purchase lamps from special lamp makers. Keep this in mind, that’s important for you to save money in choosing projector lamps. Projector lamp market historyProjector lamp is ultra-high pressure lamp, which is developed by Philips in 1995.
The short form of Ultra High Pressure, UHP, is registered by Philips as a trademark. Although Philips is the first one to develop ultra high pressure lamps, but it is not the only major supplier of projector lamps. Projector lamp market is an oligarchy market, which means only a few players. There are mainly 6 suppliers:Philips (trademark: UHP)Osram/Sylvania (trademark: P-VIP) EYE/Iwasaki (trademark: HSCR) Panasonic, Matsushita (trademark: HS, UHM) Phoenix (trademark: SHP) Ushio (trademark: NSH, UMPRD, NSHA) Epson doesn't make lamps, for some lamp models (not all), it buys from Iwasaki, and Iwasaki exclusively supply to Epson, the trademark is E-torl. No one can buy E-torl lamps other than Epson.
If you see someone is selling "original Epson lamp", ask him it is E-torl or not. Don't be fooled. Original lamps VS. Original OEM lamps VS. Compatible lampsHere we come to an important point, what are the differences between the three lamp types.
Original lamps are those directly from the projector brand seller. Such as directly from Dell or Epson or etc. There are too many projector brands, most of them are losing money, that’s why many big names disappear from projector market in recent years, such as HP, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, etc. Although many quit the market, but there are still more than 100 brands. Those manufacturers want the profits from replacement lamps, just as printer manufacturers want the profits from replacement ink jet cartridges.
That’s why original lamps are so expensive. For Original OEM Lamps, as I mentioned in above, we can't supply it. No one can supply it. Some sellers may tell you they can supply Osram type. However, Osram is European lamp maker, E-torl is made by Japanese lamp maker.
Osram is better compatible with Philips. The compatibility between Osram and E-torl is not much better than other third party lamps. However, Osram is much expensive. The third option is compatible lamp. A lamp is composed by reflector and burner.
Below picture is to show you difference of good burner and poor burner. All of our burners are chosen from the best compatible lamp factory. You can decide which parts you need:1) If your lamp housing or the glass on it is dirty, but the lamp looks new, you can change the lamp housing only (you can take a picture to us to see whether to change housing or lamp);2) If you want a cheaper solution, you can buy the compatible lamp from China;3) If you need a compatible lamp with higher quality, you can buy a compatible lamp from Taiwan;4) In case we don't want lamp with housing, you can buy a bare lamp only. If you don't know how to install, we can send you a video to show. It is very easy, just to loosen several screws.
AdditionalFor LCD projectors, it is important to clean air filter frequently. We’d suggest you to buy one more air filter, which can prevent dust into the projector. For Phoenix lamp, in after market, its code is either SHP or GL. The reason given by Phoenix is that on confusion for initial or after market.
